We recently discovered that Jacob has memorized most of his Bible Story Book that we have on CD that he listens to frequently. Here's a video of him at 3 years and 7 days old reading along with Nate after supper. We didn't realize what was about to unfold, as we were realizing that he knew the story, I ran to get the camera! Please excuse his oral fixation mid-way through!

3rd birthday
Happy Birthday, Jacob! We celebrated Jacob's birthday a day early this year because I had school open house the night of his birthday and the day after Nate had golf. It worked, but did make the actual day feel sort of anti-climatic. But he received a couple fun phone calls and celebrated at school and we still lit a candle on a cupcake once I got home at night. Here's a few pics of the celebration...
He had a hard time going to bed after his party - who wouldn't after getting lots of new cool toys! One of his presents was a pizza party kid, so of course we had to have a family pizza party at what, 9:45 at night?! ha!
I was in amazement thinking back 3 years prior - we didn't even know about Jacob yet! I was sad that I couldn't tell him "birth-day" stories but we rejoiced in what we could share with him and looked through his baby book. He's all about "what I was a little baby..." And he usually talks to about what his baby is going to do. It's cute and sweet.
At 3 years old Jacob...
*is wearing 24 mo-2T clothes for the most part- wearing out clothes before he outgrows them
*talks in complete sentences, clearly
*always has an agenda for what we're going to do when we get home from school - that usually involves brown milk, a snack, and watching Mickey Mouse
*enjoys looking at books and being read to
*prays thoughtfully - tonight it was for Aunt Sarah and her marathon (26.2 miles) she is running - he's pretty sure she's going to win :) and daddy as he runs his marathon (10K - 6.2 miles) - and is pretty sure daddy is going to win too.
*sings songs like 5 little monkeys, Only a boy named David

*he's a very active, healthy little boy (except when he got sick at life light for the 2nd straight year and we had to come home early, or for his loose stools he's had today :( He seems to get sick right before we have a scheduled dr. appt. - his 3 yr check up is next week - can you believe the office was booked out for over a month - I wasn't too timely in scheduling his appt.)
*is caring and gentle to little babies - especially his newest cousin
*likes to go to high school football games - and cheers for the coach and flirts with the coaches wife
*foods: cheese, brown milk, string cheese, juice, cheese slices, macaroni & cheese...he doesn't make it through a day without one of those.
*likes to help whenever/wherever he can - cooking/baking, digging in the garden, raking
*desires to have the hallway light on when he goes to bed, however, tonight, it wasn't on, yeay!
*Gets "frightened" and gets up in the night to turn the hallway light back on after we've turned it off to go to bed.
*Told us that God was protecting him in his sleep and sent angels to watch over him - 3 of them - they were wearing all yellow - yellow pants, yellow shirt, yellow shoes....they were men.
*Memorizes songs, stories and has a very expansive vocabulary - thank you books!
*loves to take his offering to church and give his money to God
*goes to Sunday School - and is a talker as his teacher says - lots of stories to share - oh to be a fly on the wall! :)
*Throws tantrums and whines - which of course we do not like and are trying to find ways to avoid/deal with these issues....sigh!

I'm sure there's more here too that I'm forgetting, but this gives you an idea of what this incredible little boy is up to these days. Simply amazing the mind of a child, the synapses in the brain that continue to multiply and the connections that they make daily.
Neglected blog
Whoops! Sorry folks, evidently the blog has been neglected a bit lately. I can check how many times our page is viewed in a day/week, etc. and you are, but I am not posting, so there's nothing new to read! Until now!
Well, school is in full swing for Jacob and I. He's in a 3's preschool and LOVES it! He woke up this morning so excited to go (unfortunately, a bit on the early side......5:15!). It warms my heart and I'm glad he likes school! Today he brought home the "monkey bag". It's so fun to hear the songs he is learning (many of the songs I know & sing with my students too). It's fun for me to pull up the songs on my computer so he can enjoy them at home too. His face just lights up as if to say, YOU have this song too?! We have been playing the game Hi Ho Cherry O every once in a while and working on his letters, numbers, counting, etc. He does quite well, knows most of his letters - there are about 3-5 that trip him up, counts to 15 (to 20 with help), knows his shapes and colors and has a phenomenal memory! I am currently working on uploading a video to you tube that displays this - he has memorized his Bible story book which came with a CD that he listens to at night.
Here's a few pics from his first day at nursery school :) I was sad I could not see him off, but thankfully Nate didn't have to work until later and was able to capture these fun "first day" moments and have this experience, since I will probably get most of these in the future!

backyard camping experience success!
In August we had thought about going to a local campground, but since we had a lot of yard work to do the following day and it's just a lot of work to pack up to sleep in a tent for the night we just decided to pitch the tent in the yard! Jacob loved it and we made it all night - some slept better than others.
